Swedish set of 12 traditional hand painted Dala horses from 1900-1989. Here we have a set of 12 dala horses in various sizes, with some from the beginning of the 20th century with the newest being a special edition from 1989. The tradition of painting these horses begun in the Dalarna region of Sweden in the 17th century. Typical base red with floral kurbit patterns, initially made as a children's toy the soon became part of swedish folk art. Some very minor losses to woodwork, fading/rubbing to paint. Minor age splits to a couple of the earlier examples.
