Original abstract vintage Mossi doll. Hand carved wood Yariga Biiga female figure from Burkina Faso 1940’s. These traditional doll figures were used by children to prepare and care for a baby. These statues are passed on from mother to daughter and the large breasts are a symbol of motherhood. The head is a stylization of the gyonfo, a female forward long hairstyle sometimes thought to resemble an elephant trunk. Beautiful attractive highly stylized figure with rich patina, signs of age and use. Mounted on a black iron display stand.
