Large "Calder" desk lamp by designer Enrique Franch An adjustable metal desk or table lamp from the Spanish design firm Metalarte. A tapered base supports a pendant that holds two black lacquered metal spheres: one as a counterweight, the other as an adjustable halogen diffuser. Black lacquered aluminum. Metalarte began collaborating with creatives as early as the 1970s, realizing, among other projects, Philippe Starck's first design and, in 1974, the "Calder" table lamp by Enrique Franch—at that time still an unknown designer. The "Calder" was Metalarte's first halogen lamp and became an extraordinary success. It was the first Spanish design lamp to be included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and remains a modern classic to this day. The simple, minimalist design blends seamlessly into various interior styles, making it a versatile choice for home offices, workspaces, or even bedside tables.
