Designed in the 1960s by Slovak industrial designer Jan Suchan, this steel lamp represents a less common version of the celebrated Type 102 01, widely known as the “Commissar” - one of the most recognisable lighting designs of its era. Produced by Elektrosvit Nové Zámky, it became a quiet yet ubiquitous presence across former Czechoslovakia: illuminating police desks in films, accompanying architects in their studios, and serving as a dependable tool in everyday domestic interiors. Its enduring appeal lies in the clarity of its industrial logic. The clamp-on base anchors the lamp securely to the edge of a desk or shelf, preserving valuable surface space while ensuring stability. The articulated arm and directional shade allow for precise control of light — an essential quality for drawing, reading, or focused work.
