Furniture decorated in the Chinoiserie style is so elegant and appealing, and this delightful handpainted desk by Hekman is no exception! The entire exterior of the desk is covered with gold trim and detailed scenes of characters and creatures, the work of the artist, Louise C., whose signature appears at the bottom of the scene on the right side of the desk (refer to picture 6). The veneers used are exceptional with their wood grains. Each of the three drawers is decorated with Asian-inspired scenes, and there is a single drawer inside that is covered with highly figured veneer. This desk is in remarkably good condition. There are a few scrapes on the back side, but they aren't visible from the front of the desk. The green leather insert on the inside of the lid is in very good condition, quite a rarity for leather-covered desks. I photographed this desk outside on a sweltering summer afternoon in July. It will invariably look different when viewed in an interior setting under artificial light. Please take this into consideration when matching colors.
