Baroque walnut veneered centerpiece writing desk. Elegant and sinuous centerpiece writing desk, finished on all sides to be placed in the center of a room, in true Baroque style. The front of the writing desk features a distinctive "knee" or bean-shaped shape at the bottom, designed to comfortably accommodate a seat. It features five drawers arranged in a mock triumphal arch: four smaller side drawers (two on each side) and a large central drawer with an original lock with a finely crafted metal keyhole. Above the central drawer is a small drawer, a thin, removable tablet, a typical element of fine writing furniture. The surface is entirely embellished with splendid walnut veneer, expertly arranged with a diagonal grain on the sides, while the drawers and doors are framed with walnut fillets. The edges are slightly notched above the legs. The piece rests on four characteristic cabriole (saber-shaped) legs, accentuated and slender, terminating in an elegant curled or shoe-shaped foot, lending visual stability and dynamism to the entire structure. The piece is in fair condition and appears to be in the condition it was acquired from a private residence in Milan. It features solid joinery, with the drawers and pulls in need of repair. It was restored in the past by removing the locks on the side drawers, closing the keyholes, and installing the knobs. Restoration work is recommended. The piece comes from a workshop active in northern Italy in the late 1700s.
