This highly decorative and fully functional piece combines a solid oak writing surface with an elaborately crafted rattan and wicker body – a combination characteristic of the finest Jugendstil furniture of the period. The kidney-shaped oak top is framed by an elegant open rattan gallery with X-motif and arched decorative elements. The body of the desk comprises two curved vitrine cabinets on either side, each fitted with glass panels framed in solid oak and original brass lock hardware with working keys. The central section features a single drawer with an original brass bail handle and escutcheon, flanked by an open knee-hole compartment with a finely woven diamond-pattern rattan screen. The exterior sides are fully covered in tightly woven rattan, giving the piece a beautifully unified, organic appearance. The desk has been fully restored and is in very good condition with minor age-consistent wear.
