French Louis Xiii Style Walnut Writing Table, Provence, Early 20th Century

Chairish

$4,400

Sourced in Provence, this early 20th century French Louis XIII style walnut writing table presents a solid, well-balanced form rooted in traditional construction. Structurally revised in our workshop and finished with a hand-applied wax, the table offers a stable, durable surface while enhancing the natural depth and warmth of the walnut. The piece is defined by turned and baluster-form legs joined by an H-form stretcher with a central block, a characteristic feature of Louis XIII–inspired design that gives the table both strength and presence. The apron is decorated with a carved frieze featuring repeating rosettes and fluted detailing, introducing a subtle decorative contrast to the otherwise grounded structure. A single frieze drawer is seamlessly integrated into the front, constructed with dovetail joinery and opening smoothly for practical storage. The top retains a naturally aged patina with visible grain movement, tonal variation, and light surface wear consistent with age and use. Compact in scale yet versatile, the table functions well as a writing table, console, or small desk. - Origin: Provence, France - Period: Early 20th Century - Materials: Walnut - Dimensions: W 39" x D 23" x H 28.5" - apron clearance 24.25" - Condition: Structurally revised and waxed.
