A Gustavian style Swedish writing table dating from the early 19th century. It is very unusual in that it retains its original multicolor painted finish. The finish is a fanciful blue and white stripe possibly intended to imitate ice. The table has two drawers, one on each side and a drop front storage area for writing materials in the front which has its original key and lock. Each of these is elaborately decorated with flowers. The overall surface is in a remarkable state of preservation. Given the unusual drawer configuration and the unusual original decoration, it is reasonable to believe that this is a unique surviving example.
