Mid 20th-Century Solid Maple Wood Schoolmaster’s Slant Top Trestle Base Desk - Attributed To Baumritter

Chairish

$574

Excellent Pre-Owned Condition. Perfectly sized to serve as a desk in a guest bedroom or child’s room, this solid maple wood petite beauty has been attributed to Baumritter (Ethan Allen), although there is no makers mark anywhere to be found. Because of its smaller footprint, it could easily be adapted for use as an entryway table with its storage capacity under the flip top and two storage shelves, top and bottom. Structurally sound with a sturdy trestle pedestal base, the top’s rail edge will anchor a laptop easily. When you lift the top up, which is held in place with a brass folding lid support hinge, you’ll find an amply sized interior storage compartment that measures 25½” x 19” x 7” W/D/H. The front panel, with original brass pulls, is a faux drawer, for looks only. It hails from the mid 20th-century (late 1950s to early 1960s) and is in excellent condition with little wear. One miniscule under the finish pin spot on the front panel to the left (see photo 2) that is original to the manufacturer which does not affect the beauty or utility of this gorgeous desk. It measures 35” x 28” x 19” H/W/D; desktop 28” x 16” W/H with a 26” rail; trestle base width, foot-to-foot 26”; top ledge shelf with turned bobbin rail 25¾” x 5” x 2½” W/D/H; lower covered back shelf 24” x 10 ½” x 5¾” W/H/D (perfect for media storage); interior storage compartment 25½” x 19” x 7” W/D/H; knee clearance 23"; weight approximately 45 to 50 lbs. Crafted from maple hard wood; backing is solid wood but not maple. Stain finish is a warm mid-tone nutmeg brown that will complement most any décor style. Thanks for looking!
