Mid-Century Oak Writing Desk With 6 Drawers And Open Back In The Style Of Henning Kjærnulf, 1960s

This finely crafted Brutalist Oak Desk from Denmark carries the quiet confidence of Danish mid-century design, echoing the sculptural spirit of Henning Kjærnulf. The iconic wooden legs with their characteristic carvings are slightly different than some of his other works, giving the piece a clear, sharp expression, balanced by its symmetry and large, flat surfaces. It has that Nordic, brutalist / baroque, medieval vibe with real strength, while the squared sides and clean planes offer a modern contrast, making it highly versatile in contemporary interiors. Made mostly from solid oak with a thick solid top, with veneered sides, back shelf, and underside, it has a warm natural patina that beautifully balances utility and artistry. It features six drawers with original brass ring pulls that glide smoothly, 2 keys including with working locks. Both solid and veneered parts are in excellent condition, preserved by one owner since the 1960s. The top has been lightly sanded and treated with clear wax as originally. Drawer interiors: 30 × 38 cm (11.8 × 15.0 in) • Leg clearance: 66 × 60 cm (26.0 × 23.6 in) Rear bookshelf: 130 × 29 cm, tapering to 22 cm (51.2 × 11.4 in, tapering to 8.7 in) This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
