This item was and is a vintage Mid-Century Modern sewing desk. It is designed to hold a sewing machine, which can then be dropped down inside the desk when not in use, allowing the desk to be used as a desk. There is a very clever design which allows this to happen. There is a top desk top panel which folds out, making the top 48" long. Then, there is a front and back panel that lift up to expose a recessed top where the sewing machine could sit. This top folds down to store the sewing machine, and folds up to use the sewing machine. What I imagine is that this desk could be used as a lap top or computer desk. What a cool conversation piece that would make. The desk is all maple wood finish with a beautiful grain and lovely patina.
