Designed by Jan de Jong for the Philipoom private residence in Best in 1974, this impressive large writing desk stands as a textbook example of Bossche School furniture. The house itself is documented in the two-volume monograph on Jan de Jong, underscoring its architectural and historical significance within his body of work. The desk is made of solid pine wood painted in an off-white tone, assembled with exposed iron nails that trace and emphasize its precise construction. Its strong, rectilinear form mirrors the proportions seen in De Jong’s open tables and stools, with the characteristic Bossche School profile visible at the base. The generous scale and commanding presence of this piece give it the character of a true director’s desk. Over the years, a hole was added to the surface to allow for cable management, a subtle intervention by previous owners that can be left as is or carefully restored upon request. The original paint finish has aged beautifully, acquiring a soft and tactile patina that reflects decades of use and care.
