Fine antique Chinese rosewood side or dining chairs with an upholstered Chinoiserie toile medallion, circa late 19th century. They feature a carved scrolling backrest with central floral detail and neutral cream linen upholstery in a charming Asian themed toile fabric. The comfortable seat has a recessed center and is gently contoured and rounded at the knee with a beautifully carved apron. The shapely front legs have nice curvature while the back legs are round and straight. Likely commissioned to a local maker for custom design, the pair is an excellent example of fine Chinese craftsmanship. They have a dark and satiny, nicely aged patina. Gorgeous and versatile chairs wonderful as accent or dining chairs.
