Monk dining chair designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Molteni in 1973, representing an important example of Italian modern design from the early 1970s.The chair is upholstered in black aniline leather and features a structure in walnut with a mahogany-toned finish. One of the defining characteristics of the Monk chair is its flat, architectural silhouette, achieved through the use of cross-angled legs. This structural solution gives the chair a visually light appearance while maintaining a solid and substantial construction. Tobia Scarpa began his career collaborating with Venini, and in the early 1960s the couple established their own design studio. Their work spans architecture, furniture, and industrial design, with collaborations including Flos, Gavina, B&B Italia, Cassina, Knoll International, and Molteni.This chair has been restored in Italy by our workshop, with each piece individually inspected and carefully serviced to ensure the highest possible level of quality, comfort, and structural integrity.
