Offered by antik center berlin, specialists in european fine art, antique furniture and decorative objects. a rare and exceptional set of four early neoclassical side chairs, attributed to friedrich gottlob hoffmann (1741–1806), one of the most celebrated german cabinetmakers of the late 18th century, known for his refined interpretation of early classicism and his work for the saxon court in leipzig. each chair features a beautifully carved open backrest with radiating splats, delicate rosette medallions and a shaped top rail – all characteristic of hoffmann's elegant early classical style, transitional between late rococo and early biedermeier. The slender, tapering legs are typical of the period and give the chairs a light, refined appearance. The seats have been newly upholstered in high-quality horsehair with a dark blue fabric, combining period authenticity with comfort. the chairs have been restored and present in very good condition with minor age-consistent wear to the wooden surfaces. dimensions: h 90 x w 45 x d 41 cm, seat height 47 cm (per chair) origin: germany (leipzig), circa 1780 material: beechwood, newly upholstered in horsehair with dark blue fabric style: early neoclassicism / early biedermeier condition: restored, newly upholstered, very good condition with minor age-consistent wear this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
