GUBI’s Bistra chair, created by Milan-based AMDL CIRCLE led by Michele De Lucchi, is a contemporary interpretation of the classic rattan bistro chair. Designed for both dining and meeting tables, the dining armchair is shaped through steam bending, giving it its flowing curves, while the backrest features a traditional rattan weave. The removable seat cushion is upholstered in a high-quality cotton fabric with a hand-drawn pattern inspired by the foliage in Leonardo da Vinci’s Sala delle Asse fresco. The shapes of the Bistra collection echo plants sprouting from the ground, growing from a simple stem into branching, interwoven structures. The rattan chairs were born out of AMDL CIRCLE’s exploration of rattan’s essence – one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, rattan is remarkably strong, durable, and resilient, yet at the same time light and highly flexible. In interiors, Bistra chairs bring charm and character whether placed individually or in a group.
