Warren Platner for Knoll circa 1970s armchair / dining chair. In the 1960's, Warren Platner transformed steel wire into a sculptural furniture collection, creating what is now considered a design icon of the modern era. He aimed to cater to the desire for a 'decorative, gentle, graceful kind of design'. 'Why separate support from the object?' he wondered, and so, ingeniously created the curving structure of his chairs using a fan of light, thin steel rods, bypassing the need for separate support.
