Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic 20th century Queen Anne antique style Mahogany side chair. The rear stiles mirror the curves of the splat with an attractive cut of Mahogany used and good usage of the negative space. The chair has a scalloped seat rail with a serpentine front and a clean pink embroidered seat. The slipper feet are well formed but the most notable design features have to be the chairs tall stature and rare flat base stretchers. We’ve handled period chairs with very similar stretchers from Boston, Philadelphia, New York, & Newport. They are by no means common, but we travel extensively sourcing the country for the best antiques & decorative arts for our clients. The chairs from Philadelphia have more Rococo influence and the grouping from Newport are quite distinct. This could be a copy of a New York chair but based on how reserved and traditional the Queen Anne design is we’re leaning more towards Boston. The chair measures 26” wide x 24” deep x 46” tall. The seat alone measures 21 3/4” wide x 18” deep with a seat height of 18”.
