$2,250

Gio Ponti 699 “Superleggera” dining chair for Cassina, ash, rope, Italy, 1957In 1957 the Italian furniture manufacturer Amedeo Cassina added a new dining chair to its collection. It was created by the architect and designer Gio Ponti and, since it weighed a mere 1.7kg, it was given the name "Superleggera", meaning super-lightweight.The "Superleggera" is the evolution of the earlier 646 "Leggera", originally designed by Ponti in 1954. The leg profile was changed from round to triangular. Cross struts were reduced to extremely fine oval battens and the backrest changed to just two curved bars. Our in-house atelier in Italy carefully double-checks each piece.
