Elegant set of eight Model 122 chairs designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina in the 1970s, a refined example of Italian modernist design where sculptural clarity meets everyday functionality. The chairs are defined by their distinctive, softly curved backrests that seamlessly integrate into the rear legs, creating a continuous and harmonious silhouette. The geometry is both rigorous and inviting: rounded legs, clean horizontal lines, and a subtle interplay between solid and void give the design a quiet yet unmistakable presence. Seen together, the chairs form a rhythmic composition, where repetition enhances their architectural character. This set has been entirely restored with great care. The wooden structure has been refinished in a deep semi-gloss black, enhancing the purity of the form while giving the surface a sophisticated, contemporary depth. The seats have been newly upholstered in high-quality full-grain leather in a rich dark brown (testa di moro), exceptionally soft to the touch and sourced from the same supply chain and manufacturer used by Bottega Veneta for its iconic leather goods. The contrast between the matte richness of the leather and the subtle sheen of the black lacquer emphasizes the refined material dialogue, while the generous proportions and slightly curved seat ensure both comfort and visual balance. On some chairs, the original Cassina label has been preserved, still bearing the historic denomination “Figli di Amedeo Cassina, Meda, Italy,” a rare and desirable detail that further authenticates the set and anchors it in its production period.
