So, a bit of Mid-Century Modernism plus swooping curves. For me, typical dining chairs often struggle to find elegant ways to provide support for the seat and the back rest. It usually seems like there's too much stuff back there. With this chair, the long back leg that rises plant-like, together with the sturdy member that supports the back rest, is my answer here. A real bonus with the Jetsons dining chair is the small flex you get from leaning against the back rest. To avoid any instability associated with a three-legged chair, I made the front legs project out to the side. The result is a seat platform stable enough to tap dance on, although I haven't tried that yet.The seat front is 17.5 inches high. The two woods used are walnut and ash. The curved pieces are real wood, the result of an industrial process that involves laminations and glue. The main joinery is literally nuts and bolts, with bolt heads recessed and concealed under wooden plugs which I've chosen to accentuate with contrasting wood.
