For sale is a lovely set of four Galvanitas S16 Compass Chairs, arguably the most iconic school chair ever produced. The first to design with sheet metal was obviously Jean Prouve, but in The Netherlands the experiments with these classic compass leg subframes really exploded in the 1950s. Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld designed the similar looking Result Chair for Ahrend in the same period, but the S16 turned out to be the most successful —featuring in most schools and canteens of office- and government buildings. Made from a sheet steel frame with a fine laminated and formed seat and back by Pagholz, the iconic S16 Chair is proportioned perfectly and a true design classic. The featured set is manufactured in the 1960s and in a lovely vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. They all retain their original moveable feet caps — which is quite unique. We chose to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible. A truely great chair, for an absurdly affordable price.General note: Shipping quotes as supplied by 1stdibs are only indicative.
