In the early 2000s, Richard Hutten aimed to design a piece of furniture which was not constructed. In his research he ended up with rotation moulding, for which he made his own rotation moulding machine. The featured Rhino Chair was one of his first experiments, using two different types of plastic: one more rubber like and the other a hard material. Because of the rotation in the mold each chair obtained a somewhat random pattern on the surface — so each chair is actually quite unique.Hutten’s concept was translated into an industrial product for Gispen, which resulted in a chair suitable for indoor and outdoor use. With its sleek form and very elegant proportions, the Rhino is easily the most elegant (and yet sturdy) poolside chair on the market today.The listed set of 4 chairs are produced in 2002 and are in lovely pre-owned condition, no stains or discoloration by the sun.
