Teak Dining Chairs By Alfred Christensen, 1950s, Set Of 14

Chairish

$24,540

This rare set of 14 dining chairs, model 370 - also known as the boomerang chair - was designed by alfred christensen and produced by slagelse møbelfabrik in denmark during the 1950s. Exemplifying the essential values of danish mid-century modern design, these chairs are both sculptural and practical, combining refined aesthetics with superior craftsmanship. Crafted from solid teak, the frames exhibit a warm, rich tone and a finely figured grain, accentuated by a beautifully aged patina. The teak’s natural luster and durability underscore christensen’s commitment to high-quality materials and lend each chair a timeless elegance. The standout feature of the design is the distinctive boomerang-shaped profile from which the chair draws its name - a dynamic, angular silhouette that distinguishes it from more conventional mid-century seating and reflects a playful yet sophisticated design language. Each chair features a gracefully curved backrest that offers both visual continuity and ergonomic support. The backrest appears to float above the seat, a detail that enhances the lightness of the design and emphasizes the clean, sculptural lines of the frame. The rear legs, sharply angled and tapered, mirror the forward thrust of the boomerang arms, creating a balanced yet expressive geometry. The front legs are subtly shaped to echo this form while maintaining a quiet restraint, contributing to the visual rhythm and stability of the chair. The seats have been newly reupholstered in a deep blue kvadrat™ wool fabric - a material renowned for its durability and refined texture. The rich color contrasts beautifully with the warm teak, bringing a modern freshness to the classic design while honoring its mid-century roots. The upholstery is tailored with precision, maintaining the sleek contours of the seat and enhancing comfort without disrupting the integrity of the original design. additional information: producer: slagelse møbelfabrik color: blue decade: 1950s country: denmark style: danish modern, mid century, scandinavian modern material: fabric, teak designed in: 1950s dimensions: w: 47 / d: 53 / h: 81 cm / seat h: 45 cm this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
