Heywood-Wakefield was the merger of two competing furniture companies, Heywood Brothers established in 1826 and Wakefield Company 1855, the hyphenated name originated in 1921.They began to a produce their line of Art Deco style furniture.in the 1930's. We don't have the actual year they debuted the drop leaf dining table and chairs pictured but the solid Birch wood is stained a color called Champagne and the fabric on the seats appears to be original to the chair. The entire set is in near perfect condition, like it had never been used. There are a few almost invisible scuff lines (not scratches) and one tiny nick, the table also has an extra leaf that has (a scratch) at one end and adds another 10" to the length. This line of American made furniture became very popular in the 1980's revival of South Beach Florida "Art Deco District".
