English Expanding Wind Out Dining Table With Joseph Fitter Screw Expander (Late 19th Century) & 5 Chairs

This vintage English table extends in size with a crank that opens the top of the table so that 1 or 2 extra leaf inserts can be added to the desired expanded size. All wood inserts and original winding crank included. Top edge and legs have carved detail. Feet have the original metal casters. All table parts are original. Wood top coat has been refinished. With both leaf inserts in, the table measures 82.5” W x 47.5” D by 29” H. Without the inserts, the table can be reduced to measure 54" W x 47.5” D x 29” H Stamp on the metal screw expander shows it was manufactured by Joseph Fitter, who operated a machinist shop called Britannia Works, which was located at 210 Cheapside in Birmingham England. It’s known that Joseph Fitter took over this shop in 1864, so this table was manufactured after that date. **Note: One of the armless dining chairs requires 6 replacement wood dowels.
