A wonderful dining set designed by the illustrious Italian architect Giovanni Michelucci for the Poltronova design house from 1965. This set is part of the famous 'Torbecchia' series and is a very refined expression of the brutalist style. The term or genre is often associated with coarse, gigantic, or pompous structures, but Michelucci shows that there is also a subtlety within this typology. The legs of both the table and the bench are outward at the same angle and therefore communicate a kind of determination. Together with the ratio of the wood thickness, this ensures a robust character. Italian walnut has been used, which is generally seen as one of the warmer and more exclusive types of walnut. This is clearly reflected in the color shades, flames, and drawings that we see throughout this set. Both the table and the bench are signed on the long side on the outer edge by means of a branded Michelucci signature. In terms of condition, we can say that the set is entirely in accordance with use and age. Small scratches in the paint and wood are part of this. The top of the table is slightly twisted but does not detract from the beautiful vintage look. Both of the items have been restored by our craftsmen, completely with the preservation of the patina and original character. Literature: Domus, n. 426, May 1965 G.
