Dining Table With Round Glass Top By Tommaso Barbi, 1970s

Chairish

$6,392

A sculptural play of form and material defines this unique dining table, attributed to the Italian designer Tommaso Barbi. Produced in the 1970s, this piece reflects a confident approach to material contrasts and architectural design. Design The base consists of alternating panels of burl veneer and aged brass, arranged in a dynamic radial composition that fans outwards. Each segment tapers as it descends, forming an elegant yet grounded structure. The wood veneer brings natural warmth and pattern, while the brass surfaces introduce a contrasting rhythm with their cool sheen and aged patina. Years of exposure have left subtle surface marks on the brass, enriching its texture and visual depth. Resting atop is a round glass plate, offering an unobstructed view of the architectural base. The glass adds lightness and allows the geometric configuration below to fully reveal itself, functioning almost as a transparent frame around the sculptural core. A piece that balances refinement with bold presence. The contrast between clarity and opacity, natural and processed, is handled with precision and confidence. Condition The condition of the table is good. The brass has developed a deep patina, and the veneer shows visible signs of wear. However, we will give the table a touch up. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
