Imperial Blue Salt Cellar

Salt was a highly-prized commodity in the 1700's and salt piled on a tray was on display at the table for elegant guests. We call these master salts. In later years these have become collectibles in several countries. These are also other uses today, such as a guest soap dish or a dish for rings. Mottahedeh has produced these master salts in an array of colors: Pink, Apple, Cornflower, Green and Cobalt Blue. A favorite with brides, Mottahedeh specializes in luxurious patterns and unique, elegant shapes that are reproduced from china found in museums and historical societies. The patterns feature complex and vibrant colors, and hand-painted gold decoration. The pieces are surprisingly fresh and timely, and look wonderful in both contemporary and traditional dining rooms.
