Mario Bellini Cab Tab Table For CassinaThe design approach that in 1977 led Mario Bellini and Cassina to clad the structure of a chair in saddle leather – in the manner of a bespoke suit, breathing life into the iconic Cab – prompted the great architect and the Meda-based company to extend the same aesthetic language to the creation of an elegant, sophisticated table.Cab Tab highlights the expertise of the company’s artisans in the lengthy, intricate processing of saddle leather. The various parts, cut with a CNC machine and then worked by hand, are sewn to create a piece of upholstery that is masterfully hand-moulded to the metal skeleton of the table. The table is embellished with saddlery top-stitching visible in the junctures between the parts. Ha ricevuto il Premio Compasso d'Oro otto volte e 25 delle sue opere sono nella collezione permanente del MoMA di New York, che gli ha dedicato una retrospettiva nel 1987. E' stato direttore della rivista Domus (1985-1991). Ha progettato numerose mostre d’arte e di architettura sia in Italia, sia all'estero, tra le ultime quelle a Palazzo Reale con i capolavori di Giotto (2016) e al Museo del ‘900 dedicata a Margherita Sarfatti (2018-2019). Nel 2015 la Triennale di Milano gli ha assegnato la Medaglia d’oro alla carriera per l’Architettura e nel 2017 gli ha dedicato una mostra retrospettiva. Dal 1980, si dedica prevalentemente all'architettura. Tra gli edifici progettati e realizzati figurano il Quartiere Portello di Fiera Milano, il Centro Espositivo e Congressuale di Villa Erba a Cernobbio (Como), il Tokyo Design Centre in Giappone, l’America Headquarters di Natuzzi negli Stati Uniti, la National Gallery of Victoria a Melbourne, l’Headquarters della Deutsche Bank a Francoforte, il Museo di Storia della Città di Bologna, l’edificio per il Dipartimento delle Arti Islamiche al Louvre di Parigi, e il nuovo Centro Congressi di Milano, il più grande d'Europa. A Roma-Fiumicino è stato recentemente ultimato l’Airterminal internazionale T3, mentre è stato appena inaugurato il nuovo Headquarters of Generali Group a Trieste. I progetti attualmente in corso sono la Nuova Scuola Politecnica di Genova (2006- 2020), una vasta struttura alberghiera e residenziale a Virgin Gorda Island nelle British Vergin islands (2018-2020) e la nuova sede della RAI a Milano (2018-2020).
