Gerard Geytenbeek (Utrecht, April 19, 1934 – Zwijndrecht, May 15, 2008) was a Dutch furniture designer and architect, best known for his mid-century furniture designs. His work was characterized by simple, clean lines and optimal functionality, using high-quality materials such as luxury woods and leather. Geytenbeek found inspiration in the work of Gerrit Rietveld and had connections with the Institute for Industrial Design in Amsterdam. He believed that a good design should be both aesthetic and practical and strove to combine the two. Several of his designs were awarded prestigious design prizes. Offered here is a beautiful round dining table designed by Gerard Geytenbeek, model Plataan. The table has a top with a striking wood grain and is supported by a unique base of crosswise round legs, which gives it a sculptural and modern effect. Geytenbeek designed this table in the 1960s, and it was produced by AZS Meubelen in the Netherlands. The table has a generous diameter of 120 cm. This design was praised at the time for its functionality and aesthetics, and is now a sought-after collector's item among lovers of mid-century design. This example is in good condition and ready for immediate use.
