Rocha Sculptural Dining Table By Vivas, Argentina, 1960

Chairish

$15,252

Rare and truly unique sculptural dining or centre table designed by Roberto Vivas and made in his own atelier in Argentina in 1960. This is an exceptional functional sculpture as Vivas described his artworks. A sculpture that communicates with its surroundings. The base is made of painted concrete in a warm tone. The oval glass top has a bevelled rim which is a wonderful detail. The butterfly-shaped sculpture has the same form on both sides but with different appearances. On one side there’s a circular hole where the other has a more almond shape. Beautiful three-dimensional design with an architectural feel. The most interesting part is that Vivas made rough concrete look so soft due to its sculpting techniques. It’s a one of a kind piece that can serve both as a dining table or as a centre piece in a hallway. In both applications a true conversation piece. The base has some older repairs but since the surface is pretty rough from itself, they do not stand out. The glass top has normal and age related surface wear, no chips or cracks. Marked Rocha on the base. Roberto Jorge Illuzzi, known as Roberto Vivas, is an Argentine sculptor and painter, exterminated in Brazil. Born in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. from 1952 he studied visual arts and spent some time in Italy and France. His first exhibition was in 1962 at the Rubbens Gallery in Buenos Aires. from then on he exhibited many times and in different places, notably at the Mar del Plata Gallery, the annual Salon of the Argentine Hebrew Society, the Mar del Plata Art Salon, the Modern Art Movement of Uruguay, the Torcuato Di Tella Institute and the Bariloche Foundation.
