Vintage French T55 Dining Table From Tolix, 1960s

Chairish

$2,162

1960's original french t55 tolix rectangular white 2 metre dining table. (932.4). Tolix is one of our all time favourite companies. In 1907 frenchman xavier pauchard discovered that he could protect sheet metal from rusting by dipping it in molten zinc (galvanisation) and a few years later he set up his factory producing steel furniture. Tolix was the creator and founder of perhaps the most iconic café chair of all time, the tolix model a, designed in 1934. Tolix used their metal working skill to also produce exquisitely designed but practical café/dining tables to partner their chairs. The t55 is the iconic tolix table and we rarely see a vintage large 2 meter table in such exceptional condition. The table has spent its life indoors in a sports dining hall in northern france so it has thankfully been saved from the ravages of the weather and is in exceptionally good structural condition. Originally with a grey with a black sub frame and black legs the top has been repainted several times and its current colour is a light off white which gathering by the thickness, age and condition has been coated several time and we would estimate the colour is from the 70's. The underside was overpainted white at some stage. The thick well aged and heavy painted top has the most exceptional character, showing years of overpainting, age and use. Knee height 61cm. Date:1960's maker:tolix – france dimensions:80cm(w) x 200cm(l) x 74cm(h) this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
