French Display Cabinet With Mirrored Back Panel, 1890s

Chairish

$960

This impressive display cabinet originates from France and stylistically dates to the late 19th to early 20th century. Its graceful proportions, glazed surfaces, and understated ornamentation lend the piece a serene presence without being overpowering. Refinished in a delicate taupe hue. Features a mirrored back panel. Historical Context: Display cabinets of this type were primarily used in middle-class homes around 1900 to showcase porcelain, glassware, or smaller collectibles in a visible yet protected manner. This type of furniture combines a representative function with practical storage and was particularly common in parlors, dining rooms, or transitional spaces. Features: Full glazing with glass shelves; single door with profiled frame; refinished in French Louis XV style. Design: The design draws on late 19th-century French furniture traditions with clear verticality, gently curved lines, and sparingly used decorative elements. The ornamental details are flat and subordinate to the overall form. Former function: Display of porcelain, glass, or collectibles. Current function: Display case for dishes, books, objects, or curated individual pieces. Dimensions: Height 162 × Width 87 × Depth 44 cm. Material and condition: Beechwood frame with glazed sides and door, fitted with glass shelves inside. Good condition for its age; a small, inconspicuous crack is present in the left side glass panel. The piece of furniture was inspected, cleaned, refurbished, and checked by Kastellan.
