Japanese Open Ko-Dansu Display Cabinet, 1900s

Chairish

$388

A compact Japanese wooden cabinet from the late Meiji period, with a deep warm colour and beautifully aged wood patina. Dimensions: height 45.5 cm, width 42 cm, depth 26 cm. The upper section is open and divided into one large compartment on the left and two smaller compartments on the right, making the piece beautifully suited today as a small display cabinet for ceramics, books, tea objects or personal collectibles. The original sliding doors are missing, but this gives the cabinet a very practical open function. The lower section contains a spacious drawer with a metal handle, ideal for storing small objects, paperwork or personal items. The dark reddish-brown wood tone, visible grain and natural wear give the cabinet a strong sense of character without feeling heavy. Beautiful as a small display piece on a cabinet, low table or sideboard, but also atmospheric as a base for a plant, vase or ceramic object. A sober and functional piece with a strong Japanese presence. In beautiful antique condition, with signs of use, wear and patina consistent with age and use. Sturdy, practical and highly decorative.
