A wonderfully scaled mid-sized display cabinet in red lacquer with Chinoiserie decorations made by the New York City firm of Scalia, Schmieg & Kotzian (closed since the late 1970s). This beautiful 2-piece cabinet (the top glass door section rests on the 2-door base) features a graceful scalloped pediment top, key-locked mullioned glass doors that open to an interior lined in pale yellow silk and painted a complimentary pale yellow; the removable wooden shelves are double grooved for display of porcelain plates or other such decorative items. The cabinet also features a lighted interior. The lower cabinet also features key-lock doors that open to a pale yellow interior fitted with an adjustable shelf, as well as 2-drawers above the doors and a secret square center drawer (accessed from the lower shelf cabinet by a hidden toggle ). The raised chinoiserie decorations featuring a fantastical palace view with various figures and flora expertly and delicately rendered with gold leaf highlights. There is no label on this piece, but there is a photo of it from the company's catalogue provided here. Simple bracket feet support the cabinetry, making this elegant display cabinet a guaranteed centerpiece of any room in which it is used. Dimensions: 54" wide overall x 16" deep x 81" high to the top of the pediment top (72" high excluding the curved pediment. The firm of Scalia, Schmieg & Kotzian, were renowned for making some of the best and most elegant European styled furniture in the U.S. and in the world. This piece was purchased in the early 1970s from the firm for display in our high-end Interior Design and Furniture Showroom; it was used as a display piece from which orders were taken. The floor sample was never sold and remained in our showroom from that time. This cabinet is in excellent condition; any imperfections or scratches are consistent with age and its use as a floor sample in a high-end furniture showroom.
