New York/Valpariso run. Transferred 1932 to Scottish owners, sold 1935 for Egyptian service. Renamed Khedive Ismail. Seized 1940 by UK for wartime troop transport Sunk by Japanese submarine I-27 on February 12, 1944 near the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. Killed 1,220 men; 77 women Survived 208 men; 6 women Largest lost of service women in the history of the Commonwealth Nations, third largest loss of life on Allied shipping in WWII.
