Vintage named ship model in display case. Case is 45 inches long, 15 ¾ inches tall, 9 inches deep. Model is about 36 inches long. Vessel name misspelled on ship. Ship is in blue and white colors of 1930's. Numerous details and painted background. Aconcagua: Fast, high end passenger ship. Built 1922 for the Chilean firm Compania Sudamericana de Vapores. New York/Valpariso run. Transferred 1932 to Scottish owners, sold 1935 for Egyptian service. Renamed Khedive Ismail. Seized 1940 by UK for wartime troop transport Sunk by Japanese submarine I-27 on February 12, 1944 near the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. Killed 1,220 men; 77 women Survived 208 men; 6 women Largest lost of service women in the history of the Commonwealth Nations, third largest loss of life on Allied shipping in WWII. Historic photo shown is not part of the sale but used for reference. Shows Aconcagua in 1938 in same paint scheme. For many years this was part of the décor at Portland Oregon's famous Dan & Louis Oyster Bar. 10176-36
