Early 1960’s Fyne Ladye afrormosia double chest of drawers by Richard Hornby Designed circa 1960 the modular Afrormosia Bedroom Group was high end furniture made using traditional cabinet making techniques. It was much more expensive at the time than bedroom furniture made by the larger companies such as G Plan, Austinsuite and Meredew so it doesn’t come up for sale in large numbers. The 1961 catalogue we have reads ” Constructed of solid Afrormosia with Afrormosia veneers , having a natural oiled finish requiring the minimum of attention to maintain ” (it’s often sold with a Heals but it was retailed by other top class provincial retailers) This is the 6 drawer double chest, deep in size, so plenty of room for storage. as a bedroom or lounge piece. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history.
