Wim Rietveld 'Reply' Drafting Tables For Ahrend De Cirkel, 1958

1st Dibs

$1,250

The 'Reply' drafting table was a collaborative design by Wim Rietveld and Friso Kramer, produced by Ahrend de Cirkel beginning in 1958. Each table features a wood laminate top adjustable at two points — angle and height — with a self-leveling foot for stability on uneven surfaces. The X-frame metal bases are painted in varying shades of gray and white, and each top measures 47.25 inches. The tops carry decades of accumulated studio use: layers of paint in multiple colors applied over years of professional use have left each surface visually distinct.Rietveld and Kramer's collaboration for Ahrend de Cirkel produced some of the most recognizable Dutch functionalist furniture of the postwar era. The 'Reply' drafting table reflects the era's focus on adjustability and utility — engineering solutions integrated directly into the form. Ahrend de Cirkel, later known simply as Ahrend, was a major force in Dutch contract and institutional furniture manufacturing throughout the mid-twentieth century. The tables show visible wear consistent with age and use, including paint and enamel loss on the frames. Condition varies across the three pieces, each reflecting decades of active studio service.
