This is a lovely 19th Century commode with exceptionally well executed decoration. Doves have many symbolic associations including love and peace and these doves drinking from a basin are enchanting. The classical grapes and leaves encircling the Romanesque head or Greek god add a touch of the mythical. The painting has been refreshed on this antique well proportioned chest of drawers which is 37 1/2 inches high, 38 inches wide and 17 inches deep.
