A good & unusual antique early 18th century William & Mary geometric oak chest with a lift up coffer top, circa 1700. The chest unusually having a lift up lid with hand-forged iron strap hinges enclosing a storage area for bedding or clothing, the front drawer is in fact a dummy panel with geometric molding, below are a pair of graduated drawers with corresponding geometric molding, the drawers are deep and provide ample storage. The brass handles are period 18th century but slightly later replacements, it was common for hardware like this to be 'updated' as fashion trends changed, the chest is raised on shaped bracket feet and paneled sides. The chest is in very good condition it is solid & sturdy, the drawers run smooth, they are clean and free of aroma & are ready to store clothing, bedding or? The patina is a warm deep honey color and the chest has just lovingly received a coat of wax in Bloomsbury's workshops, a good early 18th century William & Mary period chest is in great condition and is ready to grace your space.
