A fine antique 18th century French Louis XV Kingwood and parquetry inlaid commode, with ormolu mounts and marble top, circa 1780. The commode of gentle serpentine form with a black & white veined Brèche marble top, below are six drawers with checkered inlay, to each side is a gilt bronze maidenhead corbel. Each drawer is lavishly mounted with large ornate gilt bronze handles, the central panel in between the drawers is mounted with three gilt bronze maidenhead masks. The sides of the commode are finely inlaid with quartered parquetry panels with corresponding checkered inlay. The feet with gilt bronze sabots and the yolk with a gilt bronze maidenhead with laurel leaves. Condition is excellent, the drawers run smooth and are aroma free, the chest is sturdy and provides ample storage. The finish has been lovingly refreshed in Bloomsbury's professional workshops.
