Chest Of Drawers From Karlsruhe Hofwerkstatt, 1800s

Chairish

$10,043

A two-drawer court chest of drawers, probably from the Karlsruhe court workshop under Georg Heinrich Gambs. Its design and construction clearly indicate the influence of David Roentgen, under whom Heinrich Gambs had worked. His cousin, Georg Friedrich Gambs, in turn, learned the style and technique under him in St. Petersburg. This also explains the removable legs, for which Roentgen was known, among other things. In any case, the authorship can be attributed to one of these two Gambs, whether from St. Petersburg or Karlsruhe. See inventory no. 339, writing cabinet of the state palace of Baden-Württemberg, as well as the exhibition catalog: "A Century for the Princely Court" from 1994. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs, designer records, or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
