Antique solid walnut commode with scrolls, dating from the 1810s/1830s. Solid walnut on all visible surfaces, including the legs and scrolls. The top is composed of two planks, sanded, stained, and finished with a bistro varnish. Four drawers, including one in the frieze above the scrolls. Gilt brass handles, bronze keyhole escutcheons. Solid light wood interior. Wide, straight, and imposing legs topped with scrolls. Simple, paneled sides. This lovely commode comes from a manor house in a village in northern Aveyron, southern France. Beautiful quality materials, traditional craftsmanship, assembled with wooden pegs.
