A French Neoclassical four drawer commode, with original marble top and fabulous hardware, from the early 19th century. This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped black marble top, which slightly overhangs the case which houses four drawers (upper drawer is disguised within the top frieze), flanked within a pair of rounded column style front side posts, a straight skirt, and presented upon thick rounded front feet and block style feet at rear. The original column bandings (at top and bottom) and the most exceptionally ornate drawer pulls and escutcheons, complete the look. The fruitwood is rich and warm, with an old finish and wonderful old patina. Please note that there is a small crack and some stains and scratches on the marble. This early 19th century French Neoclassical commode has a masculine feel to it that will make a stately expression and a fabulous case-piece for your home.
