A French carved and painted wood chest of drawers, with newer marble top, from the early 19th century. This exquisite antique commode from France features a marble top with rounded, cove-edges at both front corners, which rests atop a neoclassical case which houses three full-sized drawers, nicely trimmed in brass, and its original hardware of rectangular-shaped brass bail-pulls which flank the escutcheon at their centers. Each of the front side posts are fluted and rounded. The panels at each case side are outlined in the same brass trimming. And this piece is nicely presented upon four conical legs which terminate into brass feet. The coloring is primarily that of a medium slate grey/blue. This handsome early 19th century French chest-of-drawers would work really well in a bedroom as a dresser or perhaps in a foyer or living area with decorative items atop and storage within.
