This antique chest of drawers was crafted in the Meiji Era (1868–1912).Made of Japanese cedar and finished with urushi (Japanese lacquer), it has developed a beautifully weathered surface that reflects the quiet dignity of time. The natural wear and fading give it a rich character, embodying the wabi-sabi aesthetic—the appreciation of imperfection and transience. The structure is also distinctive: the side panels extend downward to form integrated legs, giving the piece both stability and a light, open feel. A particularly unique feature is the pair of handles on each side, which were originally designed for portability but now serve as a charming visual detail.Simply placing this chest in your space invites a sense of calm presence, where Japanese sensibility and the depth of history gently unfold. As an antique piece, minor scratches and marks may be present, each adding to its unique charm and the story it tells over time.Cleaned and disinfected with non-toxic solution. The drawers moves smoothly. We have conducted a meticulous check for any broken or damaged areas, and the result is absolutely problem-free.
