Large antique chest of drawers consisting of two parts: nihonmatsu 二本松 ishô'dansu 衣装箪笥, Meiji (1868-1912). The cabinet has four beautifully decorated lock plates and five locks, all of which can be locked with one key. The tansu has four large drawers and one hinged door behind which there are two more small drawers. The exterior and drawer fronts are made of indigenous hinoki cypress wood finished with red Shunkei-style 春慶 lacquer that further accentuates the beautiful natural wood grain. On the sides, rectangular brackets are provided to connect the two parts and also to transport the cabinet with a long pole and two carriers. This ishô'dansu is of high quality and suitable as storage furniture with decorative value. Good condition. Dimensions: height 109 cm, width 112 cm, depth 44 cm.
