This exquisite commode was crafted around 1760 by the renowned cabinetmaker louis foureau and represents the elegant french transition style, the transition from rococo to neoclassicism. the solid oak body is inlaid with luxurious marquetry of rosewood, palisander, and ebony. The finely crafted wood inlays lend the surface exceptional depth and vibrancy, testifying to the highest level of craftsmanship. A subtle projecting section accentuates the front, emphasizing the harmonious lines of this era. The gently curved legs, typical of the transition style, terminate in original sabots. a particular highlight is the original marble top made of breche “grand antique d’aubert” marble. This expressive marble was a favorite of louis foureau. Beneath the top are both the signature l. Foureau and the authentic guild mark jme (jurés maîtres ébénistes).
